What is the hottest new sport to hit the Cedar Valley???
FOOTGOLF!
A mixture of soccer and golf, very creative. Footgolf has
been around since 2006 but became an official sport in the United States in
2011. So everyone is wondering how could you possible mix these two sports
together. Well, you make a really big golf hole and play golf without clubs and
just kick a soccer ball. Seems easy enough right? However, the rules of golf
still apply, you have to kick the ball off of the ground the whole time for
starters (NO PUNTING!). You have to play the ball as it lies, no fixing lies or
foot-wedges…ha… Other rules like water hazards and unplayable lies are played
the same as they would be in golf.
Now that you have a general idea of what it is the only
place to actually play is at Walter’s Ridge here in Cedar Falls. The next
closest place is in Dubuque. Cedar Falls decided to put this in last winter and
once the snow melted they put the big cups in and have had great success over
the last 5 months. However, there has not been a tournament yet… which is in
the works right now!

This looks so awesome. I seriously had no idea that the Cedar Valley had anything like this! Will definitely have to check it out.
